Andy
Jones: King ‘O’ Fun
Friday, January 14
Yukon Arts Centre 8pm $20
At a drunken party, Andy Jones is
crowned “King ‘O’ Fun”.
To his friends and family it’s just a joke–but to Andy,
it grows into a vortex of agonized brooding. At all costs, he must
get rid
of the crown!
Critics and audiences are hailing King
O’ Fun! “Packed with
energy and imagination” it features some of the best of Andy’s
deep-rooted Newfoundland satire, his unique physical comedy, as well
as his “runaway freight train” take on the great ideas of
philosophy and literature. This one-man show combines Andy’s
attempt to recreate the funniest moment in Western Civilization (as
reported
to him by some German tourists), and an attempt by the people of
the WHISGIGGAN* DIMENSION to transport Andy to their world before
his bad
eating habits cause him to die an early death.
Born in St. John’s, Newfoundland, actor,
director, and writer Andy Jones is well known across Canada as a
creator of CODCO, the legendary
Newfoundland comedy troupe. Andy has written five critically acclaimed
one-man comedy shows that have toured extensively across Canada,
the UK, and Ireland. His last show, To The Wall, premiered
in Whitehorse before touring the world. Andy’s numerous awards
include two Geminis (with CODCO), an Emmy nomination for his work with Kids
In The Hall,
and awards of excellence from ACTRA and the Newfoundland and Labrador
Arts Council. He has also performed in theatre productions across Canada.
“
Jones’s kind of fun in King ‘O’ Fun…leaves you
weak, hung-over, your mind a total wreck. Jones is the king of possibility,
raw imagination, uncensored, as free of restraint as a runaway freight
train…There’s no stopping the tidal wave of inspired
clowning...” ~Stephen Pedersen, The
Chronicle Herald, Halifax
*(Note: “whisgiggan” is
a Newfoundland word for a particularly irreverent form of uncontrollable
giggling–usually by children in the presence of authority.
As
in “Stop yer whisgiggan ye'll be cryin’ the once!”)
