Sunday, January 16
Westmark Whitehorse 8pm $20
Punchline Scramble is a live
improvised comedy show like no other, with alumni from Three
Dead Trolls in a Baggie and Atomic Improv Co. This fast and
funny show utilizes the skills of internationally renowned improvisers
to instantly create hilarious scenes based on suggestions from
the audience. It's completely made up on the spot so anything can
happen and usually does!
Donovan Workun has been a professional Improviser
for almost 15 years. As a founding member of The Atomic Improv
Co. he has performed from Canada’s Arctic to Mexico and from
Los Angeles to Vienna Austria. Donovan has wowed crowds with his
dynamic high-energy improv skills winning numerous titles including
three world improv championships and Montreal’s Just
for Laughs International Improv Tournament. Donovan’s
improv skills have landed him in shows with Dave Thomas, Joe Flaherty,
Colin Mochrie and most recently, Mike Myers.
Cathleen Rootsaert is a playwright,
actor, director and improvisor. Her plays include: Mimi Amok,
After You, The Mother and Ms. Dixie, and Mama
Mia! Me A Mama? for which she received a Sterling Award for
Outstanding New Play in 2000. Cathleen often performs her own work
and was recently seen doing just that on Ken Finkleman’s The
Newsroom and on the CBC comedy special I’m Becoming
My Mother. Her new play Abigail In Twilight was read
this past October at The Citadel Theatre.
Mark Meer is
a founder of Gordon’s
Big Bald Head (one of Edmonton’s favourite comedy troupes),
and Die-Nasty (the legendary live improvised soap opera). He’s
performed from Edmonton to the Berlin International Improv
Festival to the Vancouver Comedy Fest to Just
For Laughs in Montreal. He’s won first place at the World
Domination Improv Tournament in Atlanta, and at Vancouver’s
annual St. Valentine’s Day Massacre Theatresports Tournament.
Unofficial holder of the world improv endurance record, Mark has
gone the distance five times in the annual 53-hour, Die-Nasty
Improvised Soap-A-Thon. His good fortune, unique style and
sense of humour have also allowed him to work with SCTV’s
Joe Flaherty, and Austin Powers himself, Mike Myers. |
