Mayhem and mutation in Eddyville!
Darwin is a young fish just like any other young fish in Eddyville…except
he has legs. One day two hungry bullies drift into in Eddyville from upriver.
Darwin’s friends begin to mysteriously disappear. If Darwin can’t
learn to use his legs, Eddyville is doomed. To do that he must to venture into
the dangerous world of ‘The Shallows.’
Performed by Brian Fidler, Moira
Sauer, Joe Zucchiatti, Jude
Wong and Dean Eyre, Darwin:
A Fish Out of Water is a creation of Brian Fidler and Dean
Eyre. With original music by Kim Barlow and
puppets built and designed by Jo de Beaudrap, Brian
Fidler and Emily Woodruffe, it
was created with the support of Yukon Educational Theatre. Darwin received
developed last winter and was first presented in workshop
form as part of Nakai Theatre’s Homegrown Festival.
Plans include a fully mounted puppet version and a Yukon-wide
tour of schools and communities this spring.
L’ARK
The success of Diabetes: A Love Story encouraged Yukon Educational
Theatre to nurture the growth of more theatre-for-young-audiences. The result
is the establishment of a new Yukon theatre company, L’ARK. While L’ARK
now has a mission statement and a forming board of directors, it is with the
final touring production of Darwin that the company will emerge on
the Yukon theatre scene.
Look for it!
Thank you to original workshop participants
Moira Sauer, Susie Anne Bartsch and Nicole Bauberger. Thank
you also to Mary Sloan, Jeff Nordlund, Nakai Theatre, Michael
Clark, the Guild and Arlin McFarlane.
